Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) opened criminal proceedings over the events of November 2, 2026 in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, in the Kyiv region, under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which covers exceeding authority or official powers by a military official.
The events unfolded near a private house used to temporarily accommodate National Guard service members who had returned after leaving their unit without authorization. According to the SBI, investigators will establish the circumstances and conditions of the service members’ stay in the house and verify reports of possible coercion against them. The conflict near the house escalated into clashes, during which shots were fired and official police vehicles were damaged. National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko confirmed that National Guard service members were in the house after leaving their unit without authorization and that four of them required medical attention and were taken to a hospital. The National Guard said it will no longer use the building and that the people who had been staying there have already left.
