Polish police entered the premises of the Constitutional Tribunal on Friday after demonstrators gathered in Warsaw to protest the suspension of its head judge, Bogdan Swieczkowski.
Police said there were incidents outside the court, with objects thrown at officers, and that three people were detained. Justice Minister Waldemar Zurek requested that the immunity of Swieczkowski and his deputy be lifted for preventing judges elected by the parliamentary majority from taking up their duties. Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on X that restoring the rule of law is the government’s duty.
