US Vice President JD Vance sent a letter to the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaee, in an effort to restart peace talks, according to US officials and people familiar with the matter who spoke to the Wall Street Journal and were cited by Middle East Eye.

Rezaee is a former commander of the Revolutionary Guards. According to LaPresse, which also relays the WSJ report, the letter was sent at the behest of President Donald Trump, who was aware of the initiative.
