Israel’s defense establishment is implementing an unprecedented policy in the Gaza Strip that grants immunity to mayors and senior officials in Hamas’s governmental and municipal systems, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Military sources told Walla that the decision not to target the heads of local Hamas authorities stems from concern that killing them could lead to the collapse of governing institutions in Gaza and to civilian chaos that Israel would ultimately have to deal with, the paper reported.
