Fighting between the Houthis and Yemeni government forces is concentrated around Taiz, in the country’s southwest, and the Houthis have largely blocked the delivery of goods to the city, which is under the control of government forces.
Yemeni authorities have warned civilians about sniper fire from the surrounding hillsides. The International Organization for Migration said fighting had displaced around 134,000 people in Taiz governorate, almost half of the more than 319,000 displaced across western Yemen, in figures dated November 1. Niku Jafarnia, Yemen researcher at Human Rights Watch, said the Houthis had blocked fuel, water and medical supplies, “basically all things required for hospitals to function properly”. The latest WHO Health Cluster situation report records at least 1,677 people killed and 7,395 injured in Yemen as of October 25.
