Nearly 164 million Africans are estimated to be facing acute food insecurity, according to the Africa Center for Strategic Studies.
Conflict remains the primary driver of acute food insecurity on the continent: roughly 134 million people, or 80% of those falling under this classification in Africa, including all of those in famine, are in countries experiencing conflict. Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Sudan and Ethiopia account for 60% of the people who are acutely food insecure on the continent.
