Democrat Abdul El-Sayed was projected to win the Michigan Senate race against Republican Mike Rogers, with just over 50 percent of the vote to more than 47 percent for Rogers, and will become the first Muslim American elected to the chamber, according to a Decision Desk HQ projection.

El-Sayed, who accused the State of Israel of genocide over the war against Hamas in Gaza during the campaign, said in his victory speech that “we don’t want our money sent to do apartheid, or genocide, or war”.
