The Senate plenary approved in two rounds on Tuesday the Proposed Constitutional Amendment (PEC) on Public Security, keeping the version sent by the Chamber of Deputies and leaving out the reduction of the age of criminal responsibility.
The vote was 73 to zero in the first round and 75 to zero in the second. The proposal writes the Unified Public Security System (Susp) into the Constitution, a system created by law in 2018 that provides for coordination among security agencies at different levels of government. At least 49 votes in favor were required in each round to approve the constitutional change.
