Japan launched the MMX probe aboard H3 rocket No. 10, with separation and insertion into the planned orbit, according to Kyodo News.
The rocket lifted off from the Tanegashima Space Center at 4:41 a.m., and the spacecraft will head for Phobos, the larger of Mars’ two moons, with a return to Earth with the samples scheduled for July 2031.
