The Associated Press called Democrat Rob Sand the winner of the Iowa governor’s race over Republican Zach Lahn, flipping a seat Republicans had held for nearly two decades; Republican Kim Reynolds decided not to run again.

Sand, the state auditor, will be the first Democrat elected to the office in 20 years.
