The General Assembly’s First Committee backed Japan’s nuclear-disarmament resolution by 150 votes to 7, with China, Russia, Iran and North Korea among those voting against, according to the Japan Times.
It was the 33rd straight year such a resolution was approved, according to the paper, and the text says North Korea cannot be recognized as a nuclear-weapon state, urging a return to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards.
