Thousands of people marched in Madrid in defence of the public pension system, with 25,000 present according to the government delegation and 50,000 according to the organisers.

The protest comes five weeks before the November 29 general elections, with pensions at the centre of the campaign and a warning to all parties: “Whoever governs, pensions are defended”.
