Turnout in Israel reached 55.7% by 4 pm local time, the highest for that hour since 1973, as the election committee considered a request to extend voting hours, Middle East Eye reported.
Likud, People of Israel, Shas and Otzma Yehudit called for extended voting hours, but only the chairman of the central election committee, Justice Noam Sohlberg, can decide, the Jerusalem Post reported. The Yashar party of Gadi Eisenkot opposed the request, saying no unusual incident had occurred to justify it.
