The US Department of Justice asked the state of Washington to set aside any ballots received from more than 400 people it suspects of registering without US citizenship, according to AP News.
The department says it identified 1,500 votes cast by those people in prior elections, and the timing of the request — one week before the General Election — was described as intended to cast unfounded suspicion on the results, according to NBC News.
