French President Emmanuel Macron said “illegitimate” demonstrations will be banned in the coming days as the country seeks to get a grip on civil unrest.

Paris police banned a student protest planned for Thursday, and Lyon authorities declared a ban on “all protests” on Saturday, Le Monde reported. Students had held four weeks of protests before the October 17 rallies. Protests planned for Thursday in Paris, Lyon, Lille and Grenoble were also banned, DW reported.
