A court in Kenya found the leader of a Christian doomsday sect, Paul Mackenzie, guilty of murdering 191 people, all but one of them children, the BBC reported.
Mackenzie and his Good News International Church organized a sect that ordered followers to starve themselves and their children to death so they could go to heaven before the world ended and “meet Jesus”, according to prosecutors cited by Al Jazeera. Twenty-nine other leaders of the sect were also convicted of murder in the same trial, the BBC reported; they had all pleaded not guilty and repeatedly insisted that nobody was forced to die.
