A Russian military satellite, Cosmos-2612, changed its orbit repeatedly to approach ICEYE-X36, a commercial radar-imaging satellite registered in the US and whose operator currently supplies radar data to Ukraine, according to The Hindu.

Astronomer Marco Langbroek, a lecturer at Delft University of Technology, estimated that the two were only 1-2 km apart — considered a very small distance in earth orbit. There is no indication that ICEYE-X36’s operators invited the approach.
