The United Nations General Assembly approved on Wednesday a resolution calling for an end to the US economic embargo against Cuba, with 130 votes in favor, 17 against and 25 abstentions, according to Opera Mundi.
In 2025, the text got 165 votes in favor, seven against and 12 abstentions; the largest backing had been in 2017, when 191 countries supported it. Cuba’s ambassador to Brazil, Victor Cairo, said the rise in opposing votes and abstentions should not be read as a loss of support for the country, according to Brasil de Fato.
