Democrats are preparing, should they win one chamber of Congress, an investigative agenda covering the Trump family’s business dealings, son-in-law Jared Kushner, crypto and the Epstein files.

If they win one or both chambers, they will have broad powers to launch probes and hold hearings into the conduct of administration officials. Trump family business dealings and broader allegations of corporate corruption will be a top priority for California Representative Robert Garcia, who is set to lead the House Oversight Committee if Democrats win the chamber. Democrats have already requested information on Kushner’s business dealings, citing his dual roles as an informal foreign policy adviser to the president and the head of a private equity firm that does business with foreign governments, and are pushing for investigations into the Trump family’s investments in crypto. Trump’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein will also be a focus, with an investigation into whether the Justice Department violated the Epstein Files Transparency Act by withholding or improperly redacting documents. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, likely to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee, said that “more than 90 percent of voters think that government has been corrupted” and that investigative work must not distract from immediate cost problems American families feel.
