Nearly 1,000 people were arrested across France on Saturday at the end of another day of protests that drew hundreds of thousands and ended in clashes, according to the BBC.
The interior ministry said an estimated 410,000 people protested nationwide, while the unions put the number at about 800,000. After largely peaceful demonstrations, police fired tear gas and water cannon in a number of cities including Paris, and barricades were set alight in Marseille.
