The Pentagon is treating as a suspected hack a spate of mysterious freezer malfunctions that spoiled food at military bases across the United States in August, according to four officials familiar with the matter in a Reuters report published by US News.

One of the officials said military investigators were in touch with their French counterparts about a similar cyberattack on commercial freezers that disrupted supermarkets in France earlier this month. Hackers are suspected of tampering with freezer temperatures at six military commissaries — the US Army’s tax-free grocery and household goods stores — causing food to spoil, according to the Hindustan Times.
