A video published by Channel 13 late Sunday shows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approving over the phone the deal that pulls the haredi Achi party out of the election race in exchange for a deputy ministerial post.

In the recording, Education Minister Yoav Kisch lays out the arrangement he struck with Rabbi Haim Yosef Abergel, Achi’s spiritual leader, and Netanyahu replies “completely acceptable”, according to The Times of Israel. Because current law requires a deputy minister to be a sitting lawmaker, Kisch says Likud will seek to change the law so that someone who is not a member of the Knesset can also be appointed. Abergel, who faces accusations of sexual crimes against minors, announced the party’s withdrawal on Friday, and opposition leaders called the episode “corruption”.
