Prime Minister Mark Carney launched The Plan for a Stronger Canada on Thursday, the country’s first national security strategy in more than two decades, according to the Chinese agency Xinhua.

According to the release cited by the agency, the strategy outlines five main priorities, including strengthening economic security and resilience by transforming strategic industries and securing supply chains, advancing a disciplined foreign policy to diversify partnerships, and rebuilding and strengthening the Canadian Armed Forces. The Globe and Mail reported that under the new strategy the government will beef up Canada’s intelligence-gathering capabilities and prepare for all contingencies, up to and including war.
