Agence France-Presse (AFP) identified major construction work near the runway of Taura air base, in Ecuador, about 20 American military flights between June and mid-October and documents mentioning the presence of United States troops.

The expansion comes less than a year after Ecuadorians rejected the installation of foreign military bases in the country in a referendum.
