Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies called on the Shin Bet internal security service to investigate alleged vote buying and other irregularities in Palestinian communities in Israel, supposedly funded by foreign money.

The prime minister alleged, without providing evidence, that Arab parties’ record gains in this week’s election were driven in part by voter fraud, a charge Arab leaders rejected and described as incitement, according to Reuters. Acting Central Elections Committee Director General Dean Livne rejected the allegations of widespread fraud as baseless on Thursday, and the Shin Bet clarified that its probe of foreign interference in the vote was limited in scope and was not based on information supplied by any political actor.
