Hundreds of residents of Oleshky, a city occupied by Russia, were evacuated after a humanitarian ceasefire mediated by US First Lady Melania Trump, and planes carrying evacuees landed in Gomel, in Belarus, on Saturday morning, according to Russian and Ukrainian authorities cited by the BBC.
The local ceasefire began on Tuesday and is due to last through Sunday, as the operation races to deliver food and medicine to the roughly 2,000 residents still in the city, according to AP.
