Brazil's Federal Police (PF) arrested on Monday in Santana do Livramento the Uruguayan Pedro Antonio Mato Narbondo, convicted by the Italian courts of kidnapping, torture and the deaths of four Italian citizens during Uruguay's military dictatorship, G1 reported. The life sentence handed down by the Milan Court of Appeal was converted to 30 years, since Brazil does not provide for that penalty. According to deputy prosecutor-general Artur Gueiros, it is the first time an agent of a dictatorial regime will serve prison time in Brazil for human rights violations.
