A Venezuelan delegation led by interim president Delcy Rodríguez began talks with US counterparts on energy, debt and mining on Monday, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, according to Reuters, which cited officials and sources.
Rodríguez first met Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) president Ilan Goldfajn and later, in separate meetings, International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing director Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank president Ajay Banga, according to Venezuelan state television. One source said the visit would have ‘a big focus on debt restructuring, funds and payments’, and the talks are expected to lead to signed agreements; Venezuela’s sovereign debt and that of state oil company PDVSA are estimated by most analysts at between $150bn and $200bn. Rodríguez is scheduled to meet Donald Trump on Tuesday, according to US ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz.
