Russia’s Defence Ministry said on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, that units of its “Centre” group of forces completed the encirclement of Ukraine’s main defence centre in Dobropillya, in the Donbas, claiming that two Ukrainian National Guard brigades — the 4th and the 15th — and the 425th Assault Regiment “Skala” were surrounded, in the ministry’s daily briefing carried by Sputnik.

Ukraine’s General Staff did not confirm the encirclement: in the update released on Tuesday covering 21 September it recorded 248 combat clashes along the front, the highest number in the Pokrovsk sector, and listed Russian assaults in the Dobropillya, Novyi Donbas, Myrne and Bilytske directions. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a US-based analysis centre, assessed on 21 September that Russia is maintaining the highest tempo of attacks on the front there, averaging 32 a day since 1 August, without establishing footholds.
