A special court in Paris sentenced French citizen Othman Garrido, 32, to 30 years in prison on Tuesday, 22 September 2026 for murders committed as part of an organised group, with a 20-year period without parole eligibility.

He was convicted over the public execution of two Iranians in Syria in September 2015 and acquitted of being their executioner; some 1,500 French nationals transited through Iraq and Syria to join the Islamic State group in the 2010s, according to Le Monde and Agence France-Presse (AFP). At trial, Garrido said he was forced to follow the group or risk death.
