CNN, MS NOW and Politico said on Monday they will sue the United States government over the revocation of their journalists’ White House credentials, according to The Associated Press (AP), Reuters and Agence France-Presse (AFP).

In a joint statement, the three newsrooms said they had notified the government and would file the suit in the federal court in Washington to protect their First Amendment rights, adding that the case could see emergency hearings as soon as this week. The credentials were revoked on Friday without notice or process, according to the outlets. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the move is “an assault on the FAKE NEWS”, and not on the free press, “which I cherish”. The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) called for the immediate restoration of access and said a standard used to exclude one outlet over its coverage could be applied to any other in the future.
