The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that the United States refused visas for the communications team of President Masoud Pezeshkian, which was due to accompany him to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, and Al Arabiya carried the report citing the state agency.

Washington had approved the trip of the main delegation, led by Pezeshkian, last week, and US public radio National Public Radio (NPR) reports that those cleared will face strict limits on where they can go and what they can buy, enforced by diplomatic security. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, stopped in Doha on his way to New York for consultations on the war, according to the Iranian state agency. The visa refusals come as the conflict nears the half-year mark and after the United States denied a visa to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian delegation, according to the BBC.
