US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he will create an “AI Force” and appoint an artificial intelligence “czar”, in a Truth Social post in which he said his administration will not “in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry”, according to CBS News, CNN and The Guardian.

Trump called a “hoax” the warnings from researchers and industry executives that the technology could slip beyond human control and said the criminal and civil justice systems are enough to deal with “bad actors”. He likened the new body to the Space Force created in his first term, said only “High I.Q. individuals” may apply for the czar job, without naming anyone, and gave no details on how the AI Force would work. Trump also said artificial intelligence could reach 25% of US gross domestic product (GDP) and that the United States is “leading China” in the field. The announcement followed a public call by Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei for a slowdown in the technology’s development, according to CBS News.
