Poland wants about 15,000 US troops on its territory by 2039, both permanently stationed and rotational, Deputy Defence Minister Stanisław Wziątek told broadcaster RMF FM.

According to him, the target includes about 10,000 troops on a rotational basis and between 3,500 and 5,000 stationed permanently; Wziątek said the base should be in western Poland and that the final decision on its location rests with the Americans. Poland currently hosts between 6,500 and 7,000 US troops, according to Euractiv, and formally proposed a permanent base in June, after Washington announced the withdrawal of 5,000 soldiers from Germany.
