A 15-year-old student opened fire with a shotgun outside a technical school in Turgutlu, in Turkey’s western Manisa province, at around 8am on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, wounding at least 11 people, according to the Los Angeles Times, which carried an Associated Press dispatch, and Deutsche Welle.

Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said two of the wounded were in critical condition; the Associated Press reported three. The suspect, a pupil at the school, was detained along with his parents and his grandfather, the gun’s owner, and two chief prosecutors were appointed to investigate, including a claim that the student had been bullied. Deutsche Welle reports that minister Mustafa Ciftci said 31,000 school supervisors and police officers were assigned to schools deemed at risk under a measure announced on Monday, September 21, and that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan promised even tighter gun controls, saying “one of the perpetrators’ aims is to terrorise society”.
