Nearly 130,000 people have been displaced across seven governorates in Yemen since the Houthi offensive on the Red Sea coast began, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM): the agency’s latest data, from September 20, 2026, record 129,438 displaced people, or 21,573 households, against 118,086 counted on September 18 — an increase of 11,352 people in three days.

Taiz hosts the largest number, with 73,494 displaced people, followed by Lahj, Aden and Al Hodeidah, and by Sunday evening, September 20, 3,106 people had crossed the Red Sea to Djibouti. “The numbers keep climbing,” said Othman Belbeisi, IOM Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, who said many families have already been displaced more than once. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said 28 airstrikes hit three provinces in the previous 24 hours and put the cumulative total since the escalation began at 760 — a figure without independent confirmation.
