Anti-immigration protesters attacked a car at the port of Ceuta on Sunday, throwing eggs and stones and smashing its windows, believing it carried pro-migrant activists, according to the Portuguese newspaper Público and RTP, citing Reuters.

Police detained at least one person. The damaged car belonged to Ceuta Assembly deputy Julia Ferreras, according to the local party Ceuta Ya, cited by Público. Protesters were waiting for the arrival of the Pamplona-based group Negu Gorriak (Right to a Roof), which planned to distribute humanitarian aid to migrants; according to RTP, lawyer Rafael Borrego and human rights lawyer Sofía Cánovas were also in the vehicle. More than 72,000 people crossed from Morocco into the enclave in late July; most were returned, but about 2,500 remain in the city.
