Houthi fighters pushed on Monday to seize strategic heights in Yemen’s Taiz province to cut the Red Sea coast off from remaining forces of the Saudi-backed government, according to Reuters.

The New York Times reported that Donald Trump’s administration prepared airstrikes against the group on Sunday at the request of the Saudi crown prince and that Trump called them off at the last minute as bombs were being loaded onto aircraft; Reuters could not verify the report and the United States Central Command did not respond to a request for comment. The Hindu reported, citing sources, that Trump did not pledge military support to Yemeni President Rashad al-Alimi in a phone call despite the request.
