Delegations from Iran and Cuba walked out of the hall of the 81st United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York during Donald Trump’s speech on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, according to The Independent and The Hill.

The Iranian delegation began to leave as the US president described the past six months of on-and-off military strikes against Iran, with only one person remaining seated; Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian and foreign minister Abbas Araghchi are in New York but did not enter the hall for the speech. Cuba’s delegation walked out after Trump called the country an “absolutely failed state”, said it “is failing like never before, and it will fall” and that “freedom will be coming to Cuba”. The president also accused the Cuban government of fomenting opposition in the United States; Washington has maintained an effective oil blockade since January 2026, cutting the island off from Venezuelan oil, and talks between the two countries have stalled.
