Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, meets Donald Trump on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, carrying a proposal for an energy truce that would halt strikes by both sides on power facilities before winter, according to Reuters.

Arriving in the city a day earlier, Zelensky said “concrete security proposals and de-escalation measures” are on the table and that a new drone deal is ready to be signed, with around 20 meetings planned during the visit, according to the Kyiv Independent. Trump has voiced concern about the damage to Russian refineries hit by Ukrainian drones, and Russia, which has more missile firepower, has not signalled it seeks to pause the air war, Reuters reported.
