Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told the United Nations General Assembly that any attempt to stop, impede or divert Pakistan’s share of the waters will be treated as an act of war, according to Dawn.

Sharif credited Donald Trump with brokering the ceasefire between the two countries in May 2025 and praised his “resolute and visionary leadership”, saying it saved “hundreds of millions of lives”. Pakistan’s state radio reported that Sharif thanked Trump for his timely intervention, which he said came at a decisive juncture, when two nuclear-armed neighbours stood at the brink of an all-out war.
