Seven Ethiopian armed groups announced an alliance to remove the government in Addis Ababa and install a transitional administration, according to the BBC and Al Jazeera.

The coalition, named the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival, brings together the Amhara Fano militia, the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and four smaller groups: the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), the Afar Revolutionary Democratic Unity Front, the Benishangul Peoples’ Liberation Movement and the Gumuz Peoples’ Democratic Movement. Together they cover six of the country’s twelve regional states. Fano leader Zemene Kasse will chair the alliance, according to TPLF vice president Amanuel Assefa. The federal government has not commented on the announcement.
