G7 foreign ministers called on Iran on Monday, September 21, to end its arming and support of the Houthis in Yemen, which they described as a “dangerous pattern of escalation” that risked undermining international trade, and condemned the group’s “unacceptable continued strikes” in Yemen and against Saudi Arabia, according to Reuters.

In a statement issued after a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the ministers of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States called on the Houthis to “immediately cease all military actions, all threats and attacks against civilian shipping” and to return to the political process in good faith. The statement came the same day the Houthi-run Saba news agency said Saudi-led coalition airstrikes killed at least six civilians, including two children and a woman, and wounded eight in Mokha, the Red Sea port city the Houthis captured on September 10, according to AFP and France 24; the toll has no independent confirmation.
