The Department of Homeland Security says Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez is under a final order of removal, entered the country under the Biden administration and is in federal custody pending deportation, with the shooting investigated by HSI and the FBI, according to NBC News.

Democratic members of Congress demanded an independent investigation and the release of body-camera footage, and at night the Texas Department of Public Safety used tear gas against protesters at the scene, NBC News reports.
