Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, called on Sunday for a new “regional security framework” in the Middle East that includes Iran, saying the war against the Islamic Republic should be a “wake-up call” for the region, according to Middle East Eye and Al Jazeera.

“Iran is our neighbour,” Al Thani said at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York. “We have to act together responsibly as a region and to make sure that we are having good relations with Iran. We are hoping this war is a wake-up call for everyone.” At a separate event on Sunday, Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic adviser to the president of the United Arab Emirates, said the region needed a “new mindset” and called for talks to end the war to include an “Iranian-Arab” element. The remarks came hours after reports, relayed by Middle East Eye, that Washington plans to resume direct strikes on Iran after months of reduced violence.
