The Trump administration has informally notified congressional committees of a US$ 2.8 billion arms package for Israel that includes 40,000 907-kilogram bombs, 20,000 MK-84s and 20,000 BLU-117s, The Washington Post reported, citing a government official speaking on condition of anonymity, along with Reuters.

If completed, it would be the largest single sale of that munition to Israel in recent years and would exceed a 2025 transfer worth nearly US$ 3 billion that contained more than 35,500 of the bombs and was approved after the administration bypassed normal congressional review. Most of the package would be financed through Foreign Military Financing, a mechanism under which Washington provides the money and Israel buys the weapons from the United States. The package also includes 20,000 I-2000 penetrator warheads, designed to punch through hardened underground structures. Outlets such as Al Jazeera fold the warheads into the bomb count to reach 60,000 items, while The Washington Post’s account treats the two categories separately. The State Department said it does not comment on pending sales before formal notification to Congress, and Senators Bernie Sanders and Chris Van Hollen have said they will work to block the sale. The deal is not final, and deliveries of orders this size can take years.
