Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday, 24 September 2026, that the United States and China reached a common understanding on many issues in his meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House.

Xi called on the two militaries to keep regular dialogue and improve crisis communication and prevention mechanisms, the formula Beijing uses to avoid the “Thucydides trap”. The trade truce between the two countries, which was due to expire in November, was extended by two months, to 10 January.
