A student opened fire on Tuesday morning, September 22, 2026, in front of the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Turgutlu district of Turkey’s Manisa province, wounding 11 students, two of them seriously, according to The Associated Press, which cites Justice Minister Akin Gürlek and the provincial governor’s office, and to Euronews.

The suspect, a pupil at the school, was detained shortly afterwards, and the minister said his parents and his grandfather, the owner of the shotgun used in the attack, were also taken into custody; two chief prosecutors were appointed to investigate the case, including allegations that the shooter was bullied at school. The education ministry suspended classes at the school for the day. The casualty count shifted through the morning, from four to eight wounded, before the minister’s figure. The attack comes a day after the education and interior ministers signed a protocol on school security for the 2026-2027 academic year and five months after two school attacks in southern Turkey in April, one of which left people dead in Kahramanmaraş and the other wounded 16 in Şanlıurfa.
