Saudi artillery struck populated areas of Saada province in northern Yemen, on the border with Saudi Arabia, and Houthi-run al-Masirah television said more than 130 missiles and shells were fired in 12 hours at the Az-Zahir and Haydan districts, according to Russia’s TASS news agency.

The channel said the shelling was continuing. On the other side, al-Hadath television, aligned with Yemen’s government, reported that government forces retook several positions in southern and western Taiz province after clashes, according to the same agency. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said on Sunday that 28 airstrikes hit Taiz, Marib and Al-Jawf provinces in 24 hours, according to China’s Xinhua news agency; a government military source told Xinhua that government forces retook positions in western Taiz, with no change to the front lines. The Saada figures are a claim by the Houthi-controlled channel and have not been independently confirmed.
