The AfD won the state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with 38.2% of the vote, ahead of the SPD on 35.5%, while the CDU was shut out of the state parliament with 4.9%, according to NDR and AP — the party’s worst result in any state in its history.

The same night in Berlin, the Left won with 25.7% and the CDU-SPD coalition lost its majority, Reuters reports; Alice Weidel said the AfD has “already replaced” the CDU as the “party of the people”, according to AFP.
